The experiment:

A 1.64 GeV/c π+ beam at the 12 GeV Proton Synchroton at KEK was used to produce Σ+ particles through the (π+,K+) reaction in the scintillating fiber (SCIFI) target. The tracks left by scattering Σ+ in the SCIFI target produced visual image data which were analyzed using an automatic track recognition program. After analyzing, of the remaining candidate events 11 Σ+ p scattering events were selected by eye-scanning.

The data:

Σ+ p → Σ+ p differential cross section (DSG)
based on 11 events in the range 300 - 600 MeV/c

   cos(theta) DSG [mb]

 -0.4 - 0.1 2.2 +3.2 -1.1
  0.1 - 0.6 3.3 +2.5 -1.2

Notes:

The uncertainties are the statistical uncertainties only. Overall systematic uncertainties are estimated to be about 16% of the obtained cross section
