The experiment:

A 1.39 GeV/c π^- beam at the 12 GeV Proton Synchroton at KEK was used to produce Σ⁺ particles through the (π⁺,K⁺) reaction in the scintillating fiber (SCIFI) target. The tracks left by scattering Σ⁺ in the SCIFI target produced visual image data which were analyzed using an automatic track recognition program. After analyzing, of the remaining candidate events 31 Σ⁺ p scattering events were selected by eye-scanning.
